The threat of 5g, Covid-19 and conspiracy theories

Is there a link between 5g and Covid-19?

Communication is a critical part of the modern world. There have been stories of links between the current pandemic and the installation of the 5th generation communication infrastructure. More worrying are  the numerous stories circulating on social media, mostly given by people with no detail knowledge of the science behind neither the virus nor the technology.

There have historical allegations of distrust between governments and citizens. I suppose some leaders believe the less the citizens know the better. Unfortunately, people realise this and over time have managed to find out more and in some cases, they make up or fill the gaps between what they know and what they don’t know.

The need to communicate

The advancement in technology means information travel fast. The more the advancement the shorter our patience. We want to download information faster and more than 70% of the world now have access to telecommunication systems. It is almost as important as any other basic necessities. We have an insatiable appetite for more information and our patience are shorter.

The advent of the internet and mobile communication devices led to the different generations of wireless devices from what now seems like rudimentary 1st, 2nd, 3rd and now the 4th generation (4g) mobile communication systems. Our appetite has grown to the point that we expect better and faster systems, hence governments and communications companies have now developed the most innovative and powerful generation of mobile communication systems. With such a breakthrough though comes the price. Wireless communication systems generate radioactivity which some believe causes cancer. Se experts believe that the power needed to operate 5g is harmful to humans and the environment.

I am no expert in this field, but one thing is certain very few companies want to harm their customers, if they do, they will have no business.

My conclusion

Having reviewed a lot of articles about 5g and the current pandemic, there are NO direct links between Covid-19 which is a virus (biological) and the supposed radiation from the 5G infrastructures. Hence it is disappointing to hear that network infrastructures are being needlessly damaged. In 1863, Londoners protested against the installation of street lights because of its effects on sleeping patterns and mental health.

If we stop this advancement whilst others embrace it, then we will lag behind in terms of innovation and new technological breakthrough.

People have always been afraid of new things. Can you imagine that it took many years to convince Londoners over 150 years ago to travel on the underground? We can not allow fear to stop progress? I am sure many people were afraid of cars and aeroplanes at some point in the past.

Let’s embrace the new technology and not be distracted in our fight against this virus that I have no doubt we will win the fight. The virus has already cost valuable human lives, let’s not get side-tracked in our joint fight to defeat the monster.

I do agree with the opponents of 5g mast, they look ugly and humongous , but to be fair, the same can be said of the early generation mobile phones. They will look smarter in time.
