Talents in sports and business
There are talented people in every area of endeavour whether in sports or in business.
Big sporting events such as the Olympic Games, the world cup for football and other events help to showcase our endeavours. How strong we can be and how far we have come. The best athletes going faster, jumping higher, throwing further or lifting heavier weights. Overall, the games are about what we can do when we focus, concentrate and have goals ahead of us.
It is the same in any field of endeavour that we set our minds on. We can achieve so much just because we have a focus or a goal to. Some of the reasons that so much is now achieved is because we learn everyday what it takes to be the very best in our field. The world is much smaller due to better communication, Mathis means that we can source the best materials, the best people, put together the best team, irrespective of their location, mother we can bring them together in order to achieve the greatest of feats. We now want to see the best people competing together on the same field on equal footing.
For entrepreneurs, these are exciting times, we can have access to the global market, we can bring the best products to the market and get the consumers to be the judge, not a few powerful men and women who may have their own agendas.
These scenarios are the stuff of dreams, some of the largest companies in the world were no longer setup hundreds of years ago, but very recently by those we can all relate to in terms of their background and history.
The most innovative companies can now be setup, not in mega factories, but in garages and bedrooms, startup costs can now be financed not international banks, but through crowd funding by potential customers who can see future benefits. These are incredible times for big dreams and we can no longer say something is impossible or unachievable, it is a time for big dreamers, those who believe that electric cars can become the norm or that it is possible to have self drive cars or have homes that are entirely powered by solar.
I have seen the Tesla model S from a distance, but until recently, the $100,000 price tag coupled with less than 300 single range charge has put doubt in my mind that the car will ever be mass produced, but Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla cars is a man not to be underestimated, so when he promised to deliver a $35,000 electric car, the world has to stop and listen, just as his battery units are electrifying many homes across the world.
Focusing on strengths
In all of the above, one thing is certain, entrepreneurs must focus on the areas where they have their strength. Can you imagine, Usain Bolt, the world fastest man grinding out a five set tennis match with Andy Murray or Lewis Hamilton, the five times Formula 1 champion is a basket ball battle with LeBron James?. Lewis Hamilton’s love of fast car is only matched by Usain Bolt’s desire to complete his race in record time, it is not the same temperament that you need if you are a long distance runner like Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia.
Talents are important, but so is hard-work, raw talent without hard-work, focus and determination will amount to very little.
Other critical factors are courage and the ability to take risk. In Formula One, no bigger courage than Max Verstappen.
